Bsc Accounting

Overview
The accounting department trains students in all areas of accounting and related fields. Our graduates fit into various sectors of the society in the private sector, public sector and the non-government organisations. They are trained to serve as accountants, auditors, tax experts, finance managers, policy analysts, investment analysts, academics, budget and planning officers.

Philosophy
To strengthen the intellectual capacity of students in the accounting discipline with high ethical values and integrity so as to equip them with adequate knowledge needed for an understanding and analysis of the issues in the private and public sectors of the Nigerian economy; and to developing entrepreneurial and leadership skills in them to manage the global economy in general and Nigeria in particular.

Objectives

  1. To equip and expose the students to programmes in accounting and related disciplines.
  2. To develop the students’ sense of holistic judgment and ability to prepare and analyse financial statements for decision making in management decision making
  3. To create conducive environment for the students’ intellectual development, independent research work and self-reliance
  4. To develop the capacity of the student for post graduate studies in accounting and related fields

UTME
Candidates must have obtained 5 credits at not more than two sittings in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, Commerce or Business Methods and other relevant social science and/or commercial subjects at WASSCE, NECO, NABTEC, GCE Ordinary Level, and other recognised O’Level examinations of recognised bodies. At least credit in English Language and Mathematics are compulsory.

DIRECT ENTRY
For Direct Entry into the 200L, in addition to the O’Level requirements above, candidates must possess passes in 3 WAEC/GCE/Cambridge Advanced Level(A’Level) Certificate with a Minimum of C, which must include Accounting, Mathematics and Economics. In addition ATS 3/ATSWA 3/Fundamental Level of Professional Examination/ACCA passes in F1,F2,F3,F4/OND-Minimum of Upper Credit/HND-Minimum of Lower Credit. Diploma in any management courses such as business administration, accounting, marketing, purchasing and supply, insurance, secretarial administration, office management, banking and finance. JUPEB, Three A’Level GCE pass.
